🎧 Gone at Christmas: The Martin Family Mystery

In 1958 a well-known Portland family went on a drive one December Sunday in the Columbia River Gorge and never returned.

In a three-part podcast, KOIN 6 News Anchor Jeff Gianola, author JB Fisher, and KOIN Podcast Network Executive Producer Ian Costello take a look at a 62-year-old mystery, and what could help finally solve the case.

Part One

A family of five takes a Christmas drive and never returns. In part one of our special podcast, KOIN Anchor Jeff Gianola and author JB Fisher discuss the disappearance of the Martin Family and why one detective can’t make sense of the official conclusion that it was an accident.

Part Two

The official story remains the same. Five members of the Martin Family accidentally drove into the Columbia River in December of 1958 and died. But, the discovery of a damaged gun and two bodies floating to the surface seem to point to something more sinister. Detective Walter Graven races against the clock to put the pieces of the puzzle together, before it’s too late.

Part Three

Who was in the Martins’ house hours after they vanished? The report of a taxi in a strange place at a strange time raises new questions about the timeline and Detective Walter Graven makes one last move with the hopes that someone will solve the case, someday.

A Conversation

After our three-part podcast, there are still a lot of questions about what happened to a Portland family in 1958. Author J.B. Fisher returns to the KOIN Podcast Network studio to talk about what we still don’t know and what could crack the case.
